The Nettle Dress
Sun 18 May, 2pm
Textile artist Allan Brown spends seven years making a dress by hand just from the fibre of locally foraged stinging nettles.
It’s how Allan survives the passing of his wife, and how he finds a beautiful way to honour her.
A labour of love in the truest sense, this documentary is a hymn to the healing power of nature and slow craft.
After the film join us for a crafting session. Bring along your own projects for a bit of gentle crafting – we’ll bring the coffee and cake!
Ash Rise
Sun 1 June, 2:30pm
The Ash Rise documentary film tells the story of this beautiful tree, its historic and contemporary brilliance as a material and the challenges of ash die-back. The film features Tom Addy, Angus and Lorna Ross, Dr. Helen Mackay OBE, Alice Broome and Andrew Macqueen.
Following the film, there will be a discussion, led by Andrew Mcqueen, exploring how we can return to using ash to its full potential as a material for craft and furniture making, not just firewood.
Tim Stead: Magician With Wood
Sun 8 June, 3pm
Tim Stead was an innovative wood sculptor and furniture designer in Scotland who pioneered the first community woodland. This film follows the rollercoaster journey of his widow, Maggy Stead as she battles to secure the future of one of Scotland’s most extraordinary homes: The Steading.
We’re delighted that we will be joined by director Beatrix Wood for a post-film discussion.
