Soundwave

Soundwave is a youth-led, DIY music collective at Studio Moffat for anyone aged around 15–25. Whether you’re picking up your first instrument or shaping your next project, it’s the place to experiment, collaborate and grow.

Soundwave is rooted in Dumfries & Galloway’s grassroots music scene and shaped directly by the people who take part. We follow a DIY approach to creativity — giving you the space, tools and encouragement to explore music in your own way, supported by a friendly team and an environment where everyone belongs.

What We Do

JAM Sessions (Pay What You Can)

Every couple of weeks we run relaxed, DIY-style JAM sessions at Studio Moffat, where you can try instruments, plug in with others, explore new sounds or simply enjoy being in a creative space. Sessions are lightly facilitated — just enough to help things flow — but the ideas and direction always come from the group.

Gear You Can Use + Instrument Library

You’ll have use of guitars, amps, mics, pedals, keys and more during sessions, and our Instrument Library lets you borrow gear to experiment with at home. You don’t need to bring anything or know anything to get started.

Mentoring & Peer Support

Our team and older members of the collective are on hand to offer guidance when you want it, whether that’s learning your first chord or figuring out how to run your own gig. It’s all low-pressure, DIY learning — practical, collaborative and shaped by what you’re interested in.

DIY Gigs & Creative Projects

From open mics to small gigs and collaborative projects, Soundwave gives young people the chance to make things happen themselves. Whether you want to perform, run an event, learn about sound or try something from scratch, you’ll get the space and support to build your own path.

A Welcoming Collective

Soundwave is inclusive, accessible and relaxed, with a strong emphasis on inclusivity, kindness, creativity and looking out for each other. Sessions are supervised with a light touch, creating a safe and supportive environment where participants shape the sessions and can try things out independently.

Who It’s For

Soundwave is open to anyone aged around 15–25 across Dumfries & Galloway. You don’t need experience, confidence or kit — our DIY approach makes it easy to start from wherever you are. Beginners, experimenters and long-time musicians all mix together naturally.

Why It Matters

Soundwave helps you build confidence, make new connections and discover what you’re capable of. With the support of Studio Moffat, we can offer real opportunities to perform, collaborate and develop skills without the financial barriers that often get in the way. The DIY spirit empowers you to take ownership of your creativity and shape your own musical journey – and to find new friends and collaborators along the way.
